Hop On Hop Off Stop: Funicular
A ride on a heritage funicular
This Hop On Hop Off stop connects you with the spectacular Funicular Santiago, located in Latin America’s largest urban park and Santiago’s green lung, the Parquemet (Metropolitan Park), better known as “Cerro San Cristóbal.” The Funicular was declared a National Historic Monument in 2000, for the value of its complex cable transport system and its importance as a heritage landmark of Santiago.
Its entrance on Pío Nono street stands out as a grand neoclassical gateway designed by renowned architect Luciano Kulczewski, and the recently renovated cars climb nearly 500 meters up the hillside to the summit of San Cristóbal.
What to see at the Funicular Santiago stop?
It’s definitely worth riding one of the cars and enjoying the great view of the city. The midway station reaches the National Zoo, and the next one arrives at Estación Cumbre, where there are many attractions, such as the Terraza Bellavista viewpoint, the Sanctuary of the Immaculate Conception, and to complete the experience, we recommend trying the classic “mote con huesillo.”
From the Funicular, you can connect with the Teleférico or panoramic buses to continue your trip through other attractions of the capital’s great green lung.
